Teaching Environment (Standards 6, 7, 8, and 9)

Summary: There is nothing more dynamic than a basketball game. Players and coaches are constantly assessing and adjusting their play - just like a teacher does in the classroom. In this play #50 in white scans the court and makes a decision to pass the ball to #25. That player, then, makes another read of the court to see the next play.  He sees an opening and decides to go up for the basket...and scores!

Standard 6 : Assessment
Artifact & Rationale

Commendation: In observation #4 Debbie demonstrated her extensive knowledge of assessments and adjusting instructional strategies. She is comfortable using many different forms of formative assessments. In previous observations she demonstrated knowledge of visual, auditory and written assessments. Debbie believes task specific data is instrumental in student success. She demonstrated 21st century assessment software, allows her to efficiently gather and interpret data in real time. These results allowed for immediate instructional adjustments thereby enhancing student involvement and success. With formative assessment data from previous “business thoughts”, teacher redesigned the presentation format. Students demonstrated a more confident presentation and focused reflections.
